February is typically one of the best months for snow storms and one of the worst for outdoor fun. Hunting season is over, great fishing weather is still a few months away, and it’s just too cold to have any real fun outside, right? Wrong.
4. Fish on Power Plant Lakes
Unless you’re one of those intrepid ice fishers of the north, you probably don’t get out much on the rivers and lakes during the winter. But you should, especially if you live within driving distance of a power plant lake.

Why? Because these lakes maintain fairly consistent temperatures throughout the year, which creates a unique ecosystem for fish. Instead of shutting down for the winter like most fish in normal waters, power plant lake fish like bass (and the baitfish they munch on) will actually spawn during the coldest months of the year, which can lead to some epic fishing in shallow water.
