Africa Cape Buffalo Hunts

Details

The Bubye Valley Conservancy has a very healthy cape buffalo population with over 4,000 recorded buffalo on over 850,000 acres, which is nicely increasing annually. Pete Fick Safaris take off around 120 trophy bulls per year and do not hunt the cows at all. The widest bull they took during the 2013 season was 45 inches and 47.5 inches in 2012. Their success on these hunts run 100% so you are sure to bring home your highly desired and dangerous trophy of a lifetime.

Pete Fick Safaris offers an incredible variety of plains game species and up to 27 different species may be taken during your ten day African safari with this prestigious outfitter. This is a perfect trip for first time and returning African game hunters. The camps and surrounding area are perfect for family groups.

Where else can plains game hunters experience a top-class hunt and the thrill of seeing the Big 5? Several hunters and guests have seen the Big 5 on multiple occasions during their trips, all during daylight! Seeing these beastly, beautiful animals up close and in person is truly a life changing experience.

Africa Game Hunting

Hunting African game is very tough and suggested calibers from 7mm, 30.06, 300 Winchester mag and .338 to .375 are recommended. For cape buffalo, Pete Fick Safaris recommends a minimum of a .375 caliber weapon.

They also do not suggest any ultra mag weapons with extra high velocities, such as Weatherby. Average distance shots are at 90 yards and heavier, slower bullets work better in case of shooting through brush. Only premium bullets recommended such as Trophy Bonded, Swift A Frame or Barnes X.

NO military clothing or patterns should be worn! A warm jacket and other warm clothes are required during May through September as it can get cold in the evenings and early in the mornings.

Footwear/Boots

Appropriate footwear is also a necessity. You should wear good boots that will be comfortable and quiet during stalking. Recommended brands are Courtney or Russel Boots. Arrangements for Courtney Boots can be made directly with the outfitter for $200 a pair.

Weapons and Ammo

Hunting African game is very tough and suggested calibers from 7mm, 30.06, 300 Winchester mag and .338 to .375 are recommended.

For cape buffalo, Pete Fick Safaris recommends a minimum of a .375 caliber weapon. Softs or solids will be dependent on the situation on the ground, so it is suggested to bring both or purchase both from the outfitter upon arrival.

It is not suggested to use any ultra mag weapons with extra high velocities, such as Weatherby. Average distance shots are at 90 yards and heavier, slower bullets work better in case of shooting through brush.

It is highly recommended that you use only the best brands, such as trophy bonded, swift A frame or Barnes X.
