Africa Game Hunting

Hunting African game is very tough and suggested calibers from 7mm, 30.06, 300 Winchester mag and .338 to .375 are recommended. Pete Fick Safaris suggest .375 for eland hunts. They also do not suggest any ultra mag weapons with extra high velocities, such as Weatherby. Average distance shots are at 90 yards and heavier, slower bullets work better in case of shooting through brush. Only premium bullets recommended such as Trophy Bonded, Swift A Frame or Barnes X.

Location

Bubye Valley Conservancy

The Bubye Valley Conservancy (BVC) is a pristine lowveld wildlife area comprised of almost one million acres situated in southern Zimbabwe. This area has an incredible array of over 35 animal species and apart from elephant, offers the very finest of both dangerous and plains game, free range hunting found anywhere on the African continent. It is extremely rare to have such a diverse list of different species all found in one area. Some species are found in their thousands, hence the area is affectionately known as the Serengeti of Zimbabwe.

The periphery of the total concession is fenced and electrified, due to government regulations pertaining to some of the dangerous game. There are no internal fences and the whole area falls under one umbrella, therefore there are no problems with boundaries affecting game movement or hunting. The BVC remains as one of the largest concessions found anywhere in Africa.

Generally the area is quite flat with granite kopjies (hills) dispersed in the north. The Bubye River flows through the middle of the area. There are open plains in the south which offer excellent bird shooting for guinea fowl, francolin, sand grouse and doves and most of the bush is fairly open woodlands throughout. Some large dams in the north offer excellent fishing for both bass and bream (tilapia). Waterholes are dispersed evenly all over the area. This area is relatively bug free, but it is still advised to get malaria preventative and use tick repellent. There are no tsetse flies in this area.

Weather

Winter runs from mid-May to mid-August with the coldest months being June and July. There are normally clear and sunny skies with only occasional overcast and cold days. Winter temperature varies from 30 – 85 degrees F.

April thru September are typically quite warm but in October and November it becomes much hotter with temeratures reaching up to 100 F.

The rainy season is usually late November through the end of March.

Lodging & Meals

Bubye Valley Conservancy Hunting Camps

You will stay in one of eight established, fully staffed and catered camps, typically luxury lodges and thatched chalets, dispersed throughout the area. All camps have hot and cold running water with in-suite bathroom facilities. Each camp has 220-volt power generator with a standby generator and most camps/lodges have a swimming pool as well.

This outfitter never mixes different clients in any of their camps. Hence, all safaris will be very exclusive.

Each camp has exclusive hunting rights in that area – varying from 75,000 acres to 200,000 acres. Only lion, elephant and gemsbok hunters may go outside of these areas.

Each camp has its own skinning/butchery facilities complete with a cold room.

All of the camps have wireless satellite internet connection installed so that clients are able to access their computers and emails.
