Fishing the Biloxi Marsh

The Biloxi Marsh is an estuary network of 210,000 acres of coastal wetlands located on the eastern side of Louisiana which borders the Gulf of Mexico. Crisscrossed by bayous and canals, dotted with innumerable lakes, bays, ponds and lagoons, it provides a rich variety of habitat that offers for some of the best coastal fishing anywhere on earth.

This outfitter offers the most exciting Biloxi Marsh fishing trips in this region. They will take you and your group out on the water for an exciting day of redfish and speckled trout fishing. They will also provide all the elements you will need to have a successful Biloxi Marsh fishing trip.

The Boat

The mothership that you and your guests will be staying on is a 72-foot custom built, aluminum, air-conditioned expedition yacht with all the amenities of home. The boat sleeps up to 12 guests in five two-bunk rooms with space for the 11th and 12th persons on the salon settees. The captain and mates sleep in separate quarters. The captain and mates have lived and fished the majority of their lives in the marsh and know where to find the fish. The captain is also a great cook and you will be very pleased by the homestyle fare served, including one night of dining on your own fresh catch.

The Fishing

Once the fishing destination is reached, the mothership will set anchor and the action begins just hours after arrival. There are six 14-foot skiffs with 20-horsepower outboards from which you will fish in pairs, unguided. The crew will provide maps of the area, basic tips, and point you in the right direction. You will catch on fairly quickly as all fishing areas are within site of the mothership. All boats have high-frequency radios to stay in contact.

This is a Monday thru Wednesday trip or a Friday through Sunday trip. You can board the boat any time after 5 PM on Sunday or Thursday before the trip, drop off gear and go out to eat, gamble or just hang at the marina. The mothership will depart the dock between 12 and 1 AM on Monday/Friday. The fishing grounds will be reached overnight and by 5 AM the skiffs will be in the water and ready for you to start fishing. Location

The Biloxi Marsh is a pristine brackish marsh 50 miles east of New Orleans. This shallow marsh is a vast expanse of lagoons, open lakes and duck ponds. Its remoteness and the difficulty to get here makes it a haven for big redfish. Southern Way Charters has exclusive access to a 10,000 acre private fishing lease here…this place gets no pressure! Trips originate from Biloxi harbor. To get to the Mothership, take I-10 at Exit 24 Menge Avenue and head south to Pass Christian, MS. Menge Avenue will dead end into Hwy. 90 (Beach Blvd.). Turn right heading west on Beach Blvd. and go 1.5 miles and the entrance to the Pass Christian Harbor will be on your left at the intersection of Davis Avenue, turn left into the harbor and then turn right into the large parking lot. Pier C is the third pier on your left and the Southern Way is 5 slips out on pier C on the right.

Southern Way Charters

Southern Way Charters was started in 2001 with the original Southern Way, a 55” single screw fiberglass trawler, that began running “six pack” charters to the Chandeleur Islands. As the business grew a larger vessel was purchased, the present 72’ Southern Way, allowing as many as 12 clients to be accommodated on trips.

The company survived Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and resumed charters in the spring of 2006. In the fall of that year we began running fall fishing trips to the Biloxi Marsh. In 2011 an additional vessel was added to our fleet, the 54’ custom built aluminum sportfisher Southern Cross. In 2013, we added the 110’ SWC Sportsmans Lodge at Venice(formerly known as the Venice Sportsmans Lodge) to the fleet and in 2015 our latest addition is the 114′ Dogwood Lodge at the Biloxi Marsh .

Our goal has been and will continue to provide the finest outdoor experiences for our clients.
