This three-day, semi-guided spring turkey hunt in one of four south zone counties in Texas includes lodging and day fishing along with a 100% guaranteed shot opportunity.
Your turkey hunt will take place in Refugio, Atascosa, Live Oak, or Frio county which are four bountiful turkey areas during the spring season in Texas. This trip includes three-days and two-nights of semi-guided turkey hunting, with lodging included. On this trip you will be hunting on ranches that range in size from 500 acres to 18,000 acres and are well fed and managed year around. All of these prospective ranches are within one and a half hours south of San Antonio, Texas. There are 18,000 acres of low fenced property and 2,800 acres of high fenced property on which you can either hunt from blinds or feeders or you can choose to call and walk this land. Hunters will be taken to and from the hunting area by a guide, but you will be the one directing your hunt.
Daytime fishing is available on the ranches as well. There are several stocked ponds on most properties and some of the properties are bordered by the Nueces River, which also provides great fishing.
Turkeys in Texas
There are three subspecies of turkey found in Texas; Eastern turkey, Rio Grande turkey and Merriam's turkey. On this trip you will be hunting Rio Grande turkey as they populate the vast majority of Texas and are the most abundant turkeys in the state. This subspecies is said to be an intermediary between eastern and western turkeys, so you can have the best of both worlds.
Rio Grande turkeys are comparatively lighter and more copper colored than other subspecies and are about four feet tall with disproportionately long legs. Their tall feathers make for a beautiful mount and their bulky bodies and large chest make for a great meal.
South Zone, Texas
There are 54 counties designated for turkey hunting during the spring season due to the abundance and overpopulation of turkeys in these areas. Your hunt will take place in one of four of these counties; Refugio, Atascosa, Live Oak, or Frio county. All of these areas are rich with trophy turkeys and there has been a 100% shot opportunity on these trips, so if you can hit it then you will be bringing a turkey home for dinner.
Lodging Details
For this trip you can choose between comfortable, modest lodging or off-site, five star lodging. On the hunting sites there are cozy, furnished lodges with kitchens and BBQ pits for your use. Town is within easy driving distance from all of the prospective ranches where five star hotels and other accommodations are readily available.
